Great news for Croatia as a tourist destination comes from Austria, one of the most important markets from the country receives a significant number of tourist arrivals and overnight stays.

According to the results of the Reisemonitoring 2024 survey conducted by ÖAMTC, the Austrian national automobile club, Croatia continues to hold the top spot as the most popular foreign destination for Austrian vacations and tourist travels, HTZ said in a statement.

“This year’s results from the renowned survey show that our country has once again taken the lead as the top foreign destination for Austrians.

The fact is that Austrians have recognised the quality of Croatia’s overall tourist offer for many years, especially when it comes to vacations by the coast, and they are increasingly exploring our continent as well.

Our high-quality transportation connectivity, with a focus on road routes, greatly contributes to this, and we must not overlook the numerous advantages gained by our country’s entry into the Schengen Area, making us even more accessible and available to our closest neighbours,” said Kristjan Staničić, director of the Croatian Tourist Board.

With its idyllic islands, charming coastal towns, and vibrant cities, Croatia offers an enchanting backdrop for couples seeking an unforgettable honeymoon experience. From pristine beaches and crystal-clear turquoise waters to ancient historical sites and mouthwatering cuisine, Croatia's allure lies in its ability to cater to a variety of interests and preferences and its diverse offerings promise to create cherished memories for couples as they embark on a journey of love and discovery.

In addition to destination popularity, the Reisemonitoring 2024 survey also covered other habits and trends of Austrians in the travel industry.

The results found that a whopping 95 percent of them plan a summer vacation and are mostly inclined towards destinations where they can relax and spend time with family. Furthermore, concerning the type of transportation Austrians mostly use during vacations, it was shown that families with children usually prefer private cars (82%), while singles more frequently use trains (38%).

“We are extremely proud of these results, which confirm that despite strong competition, we have successfully maintained Croatia’s position as one of the favorite foreign destinations for Austrians.

Such positive sentiment among Austrians towards Croatian tourist destinations mainly stems from the key advantages of our country, such as the sea, sun, and natural beauties,” concluded Branimir Tončinić, director of the Croatian National Tourist Board Representation in Austria, adding that Italy is Croatia’s biggest competitor in this market.

Over 330,000 tourists arrived in Croatia from Friday, June 18 to Wednesday, June 23
