AIPS praises Qatar’s preparations for 2022 World Cup

DOHA: The members of the Executive Committee of the International Sports Press Association (AIPS) praised yesterday Qatar’s great preparations for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, as they paid an inspection tour to a number of World Cup facilities. They expressed admiration for what they saw and for Qatari ability that made Qatar a venue for football and various sports.

The inspection tour was organised by the Qatar Sports Press Committee (QSPC) for the members of the AIPS Executive Committee on the sidelines of the meetings of the AIPS Executive Committee, which will conclude tomorrow in Doha.

Their tour started at the headquarters of the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) where the members of the AIPS Executive Committee briefed on the SC’s different sections and on the history of football, and were given a special glimpse of the past of Qatar football and the golden era of the most prominent clubs and their international participations and achievements.

They also watched a film on the development stages of the stadiums that will host the World Cup as well as the development of business and absorptive capacity, in addition to a review of the networks of roads and transport, bridges, the Doha Metro and Tram Lusail, water taxi and logistics matters of interest to fans as well as preparations before the launch of the world sporting event.

The tour’s second leg was Khalifa International Stadium, the first of the World Cup 2022 venues, as the delegation toured the pitch and listened to a detailed explanation given by Khalifa International Stadium Director Ali Hassan Mansouri on the expansion work that took place after the renovation phase and the stadium readiness to host the World Cup matches.

The members of AIPS Executive Committee were also briefed on the stadium’s cooling technology, which impressed them as temperature can lowered inside the stadium.

The members of AIPS Executive Committee visited the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF) where they were introduced to QF’s development and initiatives. Then, they visited the torch tower at Aspire Zone before attending a part of the matches of the 2018 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships at Aspire.
