Siemens Healthineers has installed the first Atellica Solution immunoassay and clinical chemistry analyzers with Aptio Automation in the U.S.

The implementation enables Access Medical Laboratories in Jupiter, Florida to produce better outcomes at lower costs, with unprecedented flexibility to adjust complex and redundant operations and simplify testing workflow to manage the rise in demands for patient testing and falling reimbursement rates.

“They needed a solution that could grow with them as their testing volume increased. Particularly for immunoassay testing, they wanted a system with the capacity to double their testing output,” Joe Amodeo, marketing manager of laboratory diagnostics in North America at Siemens Healthineers, told HCB News. “They were also interested in securing automation for as many testing disciplines as possible. Aptio Automation allows them to automate from beginning to end, not only for their chemistry and immunoassay testing on the Atellica Solution, but also for many other testing needs, including some third-party analyzers.”

The modular design allows users to grow patient testing capacity and operate at quicker speeds with its patented, bidirectional, magnetic sample-transport technology.

It also offers onboard QC storage and has a dual-well reagent design of the Atellica chemistry reagent pack, with the ability to load reagents on the fly, helping to lower the total operating costs of a laboratory.

In addition, the system simplifies operations and upkeep; improves outcomes derived from meeting laboratory objectives; and provides unprecedented sample control.

Amodeo says Atellica requires little hands-on time and reduces labor needs, leading to a decrease in downtime taken for maintenance, and upkeep without compromising quality.

It has already reduced by more than an hour the original time Access staff experienced when preparing previous analyzers for daily runs.

“The key way to improve patient outcomes from the laboratory perspective is to get the result back to the physician and patient as quickly as possible,” said Amodeo. “The Atellica Solution delivers high-throughput achieved through intelligent routing capabilities that leverage the solution's patented, bidirectional, magnetic sample transport. The immunoassay analyzers deliver on precision, throughput, and turnaround time.”

Atellica was recently installed at LBM Bioesterel in France, Arcispedale S. Maria Nuova in Italy and Friarage Hospital in the United Kingdom, motivated by its unprecedented flexibility for automating redundant and complex procedures to simplify testing workflows and to grow patient testing capacity.
