Dan Stompel, a junior student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, was seen in videos and photos protecting the flag of US along with other members of the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity during a pro-Palestine protest event at the campus recently.
Videos showed Stompel and the others not letting the American flag touch the ground, even as protestors hurled verbal abuse and threw objects at them. Stompel said in a recent interview with Fox News that he is willing to die for the flag, showing his commitment to the cause. A fundraiser has been launched to honour Stompel and the others who were involved in protecting the flag.

Pi Kappa Phi, a social fraternity at the UNC, has been active since. The Kappa Chapter at UNC Chapel Hill opened 10 years following the establishment of the inaugural Pi Kappa Phi chapter in 1904 at the College of Charleston. It re-charted in 2010 and has since assumed a leadership role on campus.
