Scientists have predicted the UK coronavirus pandemic will conclude by the end of September.

Academics from the Singapore University of Technology used data-driven estimates to determine that by September 30 the Covid-19 virus will no longer be present in Britain, reports the Daily Star.

The results put the UK ahead of the US, which was predicted to be free of the coronavirus at a later date of November 11.

While Italy, where the outbreak started in Europe, and Singapore are expected to stop the spread of cases first, with the crisis receding by August 12 and July 19 respectively.

The innovation lab stressed that the data is "uncertain" and could change depending on the country's policies when it comes to lifting lockdown restrictions.

A spokesman for The Singapore University of Technology said: "The model and data are inaccurate to the complex, evolving, and heterogeneous realities of different countries.

"Predictions are uncertain by nature. Readers must take any predictions with caution.

"Over-optimism based on some predicted end dates is dangerous because it may loosen our disciplines and controls and cause the turnaround of the virus and infection, and must be avoided."

The model predicts the trajectory of the spread of the virus over time while tracking the actual number of new confirmed cases per day in a given country, as of May 12.

It comes as separate modelling studies carried out in Washington and Oxford predicted that the first time the UK would see a 24-hour period with zero deaths from coronavirus would come by June.

Professor Carl Heneghan, of the Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine at Oxford University told The Sun: "I think by the end of June we'll be looking at the data and finding it difficult to find people with this illness, if the current trends continue in the deaths.

"But we will continue to have these sporadic up and downs for about four to six weeks."

Prime Minister Boris Johnson unveiled a five step level Covid-19 alert system to determine the path the UK will take out of its lockdown.

Yesterday deaths of coronavirus topped 36,500 in the UK with a daily death toll rise of 282 in England.
