Organizers and volunteers are ready for another great day while hosting Quinte’s young scientists at Loyalist College for the Quinte Regional Science and Technology Fair on April 7.
The science fair is open to all students from Grades 4 through to 12 in Hastings and Prince Edward counties. Registration is open now until March 27. It should be noted the Hastings-Prince Edward District School Board and the Algonquin Lakeshore Catholic District School Board have provided the registration fees for all their students. There will be no entry charges to students from these boards.
“This will be our 58th science fair,” said QRSTF co-chair Scott Berry. “The organizing committee of the Quinte Regional Science and Technology Fair would like to get the information out now to all the students in the Quinte area. This will provide the time for them to start getting their ideas formulated and their experiments started in order to be ready for this years fair. More information is available by contacting us at 30TUqrstf@live.comU30T or by visiting our website at 30Twww.qrstf.ca30T .”
Berry said organizers are hoping this year’s fair is a continuation of previous years’ success stories.
“In the past we have had over 200 students presenting their projects to over 100 judges. We hope to continue that trend this year,” he said, “These students bring a creativity, passion and enthusiasm toward science. They are looking to the future and beyond with many of their amazing ideas.”
The public may view the many projects on April 7 from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. After the judging there will be the awards ceremony where organizers will be handing out more than $12,000 worth of prizes, medals, ribbons and money. Five students in Grades 7 to 12 will win an opportunity to compete at the Canada-wide Science Fair in Ottawa in May. This prize alone is worth more than $2,000 per participant.
Those wishing to volunteer are asked to please contact organizers. The registration for the science fair is open a great group of young scientists are expected to showcase their projects. The science fair is completely run by volunteers and they would appreciate any help on the day of the fair.
