The 26th National Antarctic Expedition ended successfully, the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute announced. A scientific programme for research of minerals on Hurd peninsula has been fulfilled. The programme also aims at creating an information database for the study of seismicity and Earth’s structure on Livingston Island, monitoring the movement of the glaciers and the climate change in West Antarctic. The Bulgarian researchers worked together with three Portuguese scientists, two Spanish scientists, two Turkish researchers, a scientist from Argentina and a Mongolian researcher at the Bulgarian Antarctic base. Currently a preparation aimed at renewing the infrastructure of the Antarctic base and selecting new scientific projects for the forthcoming 27th Bulgarian Antarctic Expedition is under way.
