Uzbekistan, Ukraine mull trade and economic cooperation

Uzbekistan and Ukraine held consultations on further expansion of trade and economic cooperation at Ukraine’s Economic Development and Trade Ministry, Uzbek Foreign Trade Ministry said.

According to the information, the Uzbek delegation headed by Foreign Trade Minister Sohib Saifnazarov met with Deputy Economic Development and Trade Minister of Ukraine Natalia Mikolska.

The consultations touched upon the certain measures aimed at substantially increasing the mutual trade volumes and other actual topics of Uzbek-Ukrainian trade and economic cooperation.

The sides agreed to organize next meeting of the Uzbek-Ukrainian intergovernmental committee on trade, economic, science and technical cooperation in 3Q18. The previous meeting of the intergovernmental committee was held back in 2007. The sides also confirmed the holding of a business forum in Tashkent with participation of business circles of both countries.

In February 2018, Ukrainian ambassador to Uzbekistan Yuri Savchenko said that trade turnover between the two countries increased by 36 percent and totaled $300 million in 2017, with Ukrainian export increasing by 19 percent and Uzbek export increasing by 70 percent.
